Fun with Fox Lor

The irrepressible Lori Fox, designer and creator of Fox Lor Clothing, came over for a party and we took some photos of her darling outfits. The adorable Miss M. was our model for the day and Laura Spears showed off her DJ skills. These are the Good Times!

Gregorio Luke at the Ford Amphitheater

I had the opportunity to photograph Gregorio Luke's first lecture at the Ford Amphitheater, on Diego Rivera's life and work. Luke will be continuing the series with the art of Rufino Tamayo on Sunday, July 12th and the works of Miguel Cobarruvias on Sunday August 16th.

The Ford, an amazing open-air venue, with gorgeous historic architecture, is inset like a jewel into the side of a mountain and surrounded by lush trees and native plants.

Sajama opened the event with moving folkloric music and Dr. Guadalupe Rivera Marín, daughter of Diego Rivera, was presented with an award for her work and contributions, with words from noted filmmaker and son of Dr. Rivera, Diego Rivera Lopez, and Juan Marcos Gutierrez, Consul General of Mexico.

Luke's presentation on Diego Rivera was passionate and insightful, and occasionally evoked audible responses from the sold-out crowd.

Restoration Trade Fair, Long Beach - Sunday, 6/28

The Rose Park Neighborhood Association is hosting the Restoration Trade Fair, featuring 50 specialty vendors on Sunday, from 9am-4pm, to assist homeowners in refurbishing and restoring their historic homes. Guest speakers, classes and exhibits will feature water-wise planting, eco-friendly products and services and historic home research, with a focus on the City of Long Beach guidelines for homes in Historic Districts.

Amazing interior designer and home restorer, John Douglas, will be there with his lighting design company, KP Douglas : handcrafted lighting and accessories. I have enjoyed getting to know John and his family over the years and always delight in the opportunity to photograph their treasured family moments.

This will be a great learning opportunity and a fabulous way to explore the rich history of architecture in Long Beach.

Barbie On Broadway - recap

We had a bunch of fun at the Barbie on Broadway event last weekend. Curated by Sidney of Spa Sidney, the shops on Broadway at Redondo turned into a playhouse of fun exhibits, workshops and charming displays of all things Barbie. Maritza at the Kids are Alright featured "make your own" Barbie glam headbands, and John at DDR Gallery featured local artists' works based on the blonde bombshell. I snapped a few shots at the Spa Sidney "Barbie Museum", featuring several designers talking about their Barbie doll lines. I have never been a big Barbie fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed the "reproduction" Barbies in adorable vintage outfits, a line which started in 1994 to celebrate Barbie's 35th birthday.

Here are a few digi-snaps from our visit to Spa Sidney.

We are continuing our pursuit of eating more raw foods - this gorgeous green-ness is zucchini noodles with creamy spinach sauce and cashew "parmesan" cheese and a swiss chard salad with almonds, apples and raisins. Delicious!!

Clean House in Pasadena!

The estate sale club decided to go to the Clean House yard sale in Pasadena on Saturday. We saw the lovely Niecy Nash and all of the Clean House crew. Lots of interesting bits here and there, including what I hope were props from a movie set (skeleton in an electric chair, anyone? Or, how about driving a Jeep!). We each picked out a cute vintage apron for our collective collections and gawked at the displays at Anthropologie on the way home - what a delicious day!

I love how Tammy is perfectly color-coordinated with the wall - it's amazing!

Laura shared pics of us with the cast and more fun pics of the day:

It was a pretty chaotic stew of crew members and thrifty shoppers mixing it up on the lawn!

Things were getting a little out of hand at this point:

We stopped at another estate sale the day before and these objects caught my eye.

We're trying to go raw for the summer, inspired by our dear friend Judita Wignall (check out Raw Judita for her great classes and raw inspiration). I made a raw zucchini noodle marinara with nut mock-meatballs and a side salad of cucumbers, romaine, apple spirals and sunflower seeds. Ivan was thoroughly impressed and it tasted amazing! A photo to remember it by...
