Hope for a LaidOff Nation
I've found a great resource to save money on your monthly food budget - it's called Angel Food Ministries and there are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions or applications. The website makes ordering easy and there are a lot of options, from meat and mixed grocery boxes to a fruit and veg box (I'm vegetarian - so I think this is wonderful!). They also have premade frozen meals, for seniors or people "on the go". Boxes are available once-a-month and pickup locations are easy to find, using their online zipcode finder.

Were you given the Slip?
The house of Mod has recently experienced a lay-off. While we are thankful to have received a tiny severance and a little money we have been saving up to get us through, we look toward a future that seems a little uncertain, for us and for a nation. A blessing in disguise for us as Mr. Mod was ready for a change, we stand united in fellowship with people everywhere who are struggling to pay bills, find work, support a family. I came across a blog last week, little thinking I would be needing its resources, but here we are today. And so we are still praying for wisdom, help, and relief not for ourselves, but for all of Us.
Please visit Layoff Nation, designed by the Orange County Employees Association, a referral source for resources and support, to help with basic necessities, such as food, shelter and medical care, and employee assistance. And please feel free to share your stories or email me personally at the link to the left. We are in this together.

Doomie's Benefit this weekend! Sat/Sun, 2/6 and 2/7! *Updated Location!
It is with a heavy heart that we say, "Espero que nos veamos pronto!" to Doomie's Vegan Restaurant - they are taking a "break" and looking for a new space for their restaurant, hopefully by the end of the year.
In the meantime, come to an all-you-can-eat $10 benefit for Doomie's (proceeds go towards their relocation) at 5140 Firestone Place in South Gate, 90280 on Saturday, 2/6, from 3-8pm and 1770 Glendale Blvd., LA 90026 on Sunday, 2/7, from 4-10pm. Mac 'n Cheese has never been more bittersweet.
