Field Trip: City of Orange + Orange County Fair
My mom was in town - I took her to the pier in Seal Beach, shakes at Rubys Diner, and antiquing in the City of Orange.
Later, we went to the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa.
Missed the earthquake entirely, since we were driving down the freeway when it happened.
At the fair, we met an older couple from Hemet. The husband restores Indian motorcycles. They were curious/worried about the earthquake too.
I ate the biggest sweet potato and reveled in its orangey buttery sweetness.
Our friend Ron Haus had some of his landscape photos on display in the Photo Exhibition at the fair. He is an absolute master of night landscape photography.
Emmylou Harris played at the fair, but we didn't have tickets.
I have three of her albums and "Hickory Wind" - a cover of Gram Parson's song (also covered by Dinosaur Jr.), from Blue Kentucky Girl, played in my head most of the day. Also, "Beneath Still Waters". She has such a lovely voice and is still even more gorgeous with all that silver hair.
