We decided to attend the LA Book Festival this past weekend, and enjoyed the peoplewatching, spinning the wheel at the LA Opera/Geffen Playhouse booth, gawking at the amazing booksellers booths, and taking lots of photos.
As we passed the LA Times Stage, we heard the deliciously squeaky voice of Kristin Chenoweth of Pushing Daisies, and enjoyed her singing a snippet from Somewhere over the Rainbow. She is too adorable for words!
Eric Carle, writer and illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other great books from childhood presented a drawing demonstration at the Kids Stage. It was standing-room (and tree!) only.
Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa from the Simpsons, wrote her first kid's book, I, Lorelei, and read a selection from her book.
And we had a great dance party with DJ Lance Rock and Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba!- all the little ones were singing along and rushing the stage. More pics at Modern Frill.
more Gabba Gabba at modern frill!
And this caught my eye...

Flower Fields, Carlsbad! Canon Macro Photography Day
We had a great day in the Carlsbad flower fields on Sunday afternoon, testing out macro lenses and ring flashes, and trying to avoid sunburn. Vintage tractor rides, singing harpists and raspberry gelato and miles of gorgeous ranunculus!
These photos rather remind me of Pushing Daisies. For all you PD fans, ABC will be showing the final Pushing Daisies episodes beginning May 30th, (at last!) and the WB is running the first season online here! And while I am at it, please see The Fall, if you haven't yet. Your eyes and your heart will be simply amazed.

Seal Beach
After a brief hiatus, Long Beach Modern has returned. Enjoying the warm sun of Spring in Seal Beach, we found our favorite street performers - at the River's End Cafe. You've probably seen them on 2nd St. and the Farmer's Markets, playing piano in the back of their blue pickup truck. These charming gents play their blues streetside and at parties - give them a call.
